Puerto Rican products may soon be on SKN’s shelves

This assumption is based on a Business Trade Fair hosted by the Puerto Rico Trade Mission in collaboration with the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) yesterday (Jun. 20) at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel.

The Mission’s aim was to showcase the products of several Puerto Rican businesses to the local private sector community with the hope of creating business ventures and partnerships between the two countries.

On display at the Fair were healthcare, security technology and ignition products, among others.

Speaking with SKNVibes Business, President of the CIC Damion Hobson said that trade missions such as the Puerto Rican’s, would assist in the development of the private sector locally and regionally.

He noted that such partnerships would have a positive spinoff effect on the economy of the twin-island Federation.

“The Puerto Rican Trade Mission today is very important to the private sector. We have about 13 to 14 companies out of Puerto Rico who are here to demonstrate their products to the Federation. They are also looking for distributors and local businesses could get an opportunity not only to sell, but also to partner with those businesses,” Hobson said.

He stated that this venture would expand the trade relationship that currently exists between the two countries.

Hobson sees trading with Puerto Rico as an important opportunity for St. Kitts’ economy to rebound from the economic challenges faced over the last several years.

“Right now as St. Kitts is emerging out of all the various economic challenges, expanding trade is something that is very important and critical to the economy.”

The CIC President noted that it was Puerto Rico’s idea of hosting such a mission and it was the Chamber which is partnering with them to promote the event.

To this end, he declared that there are other countries, including Mexico and Cuba, which are interested in hosting similar events in St. Kitts and Nevis during this year.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director for Trade and Export Company of Puerto Rico, Franciso Chévere Mouriño, Esq., thanked the Minister of Trade and the CIC for their support in organising of the Trade Mission Fair, noting that this is their fourth stop on their Caribbean tour.

“It is really a big honour to be here this morning in St. Kitts and Nevis, in this great nation. I want to thank the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Commerce for helping us  in realisation of this Trade Mission, and also Mr. Richard Skerritt.”
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –- IF all goes well, citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis could soon see a variety of Puerto Rican products on the shelves of business establishments in the Federation. which would include of healthcare, security technology and ignition fuel.
