Sun Country Airlines begins flights to Puerto Rico - Fort Myers, Cape Coral & Naples, Florida

LEE COUNTY, FL - Service from Fort Myers to San Juan began Sunday according to airport authorities at Southwest Florida International Airport.

"The airport just had its best month, busiest month ever and now to see that we've gotten even more variety and more direct flights to the airport, especially to beautiful destinations like Puerto Rico is just a good thing for the whole county,"said Lee County Commissioner Brian Hamman. "Tourism is almost a three billion dollar a year industry in Lee County so to get more money coming in from outside of the area as they come visit our beaches is also a really good thing."

The nonstop service to San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico got underway officially Sunday with two weekly flights, Sundays and Thursdays. This was supposed to be a test run, however there was so much positive feedback, Sun Country decided to make this a permanent run right away.

"We have looked for opportunities to do more out of Fort Myers because we really feel it's an underserved market, especially to the Caribbean and to Mexico," said Eric Curry, VP of Sales, Sun Country Airlines.
This is the first time RSW will have nonstop service to Puerto Rico.
